Overview: Jazz In The Country, Inc. is dynamic 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and enhancing the cultural legacy of the historic Mt. Bethel Retreat Center in King George, VA. Through a combination of jazz experiences and youth-focused music education, we aim to help revitalize this venerable site, ensuring its significance thrives for future generations.

As a member of the Board of Directors, you will play a crucial role in shaping the organization's strategic direction, overseeing its financial health, and contributing to the fulfillment of its mission.


Responsibilities include one or more of the following:

  •     Strategic Planning:
    • Participate in the development and refinement of the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals.
  •     Financial Oversight:
    •     Monitor financial performance and ensure the organization operates within budgetary guidelines.
  •     Fundraising and Development:
    •     Actively participate in fundraising efforts, including donor/sponsor cultivation.
  •     Advocacy and Community Engagement:
    •     Represent Jazz in the Country in the community and at relevant events.
    •     Advocate for the organization's mission and objectives to key stakeholders.
  •     Governance:
    •     Attend regular board meetings, actively contribute to discussions, and make informed decisions on organizational matters.
  •     Networking and Partnerships:
    •     Explore and establish partnerships that support the organization's mission.
  •     Committee Participation:
    •     Serve on board committees as needed, such as event planning, finance, fundraising, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in board governance, preferably with non-profit organizations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to think strategically and contribute to the development of organizational goals.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the organization's work.


Time Commitment: Approximately 8-10 hours per month, including board meetings, committee work, and other related activities.
